A Zambian woman has taken to her social media page to share a surprising message she received from her maid, who left her job abruptly without giving any prior notice.
The woman, identified as Nach Nach, revealed on a Facebook post that her maid left her house unexpectedly and failed to inform her about her departure. It was only a few days later that she finally received a message from the maid, explaining the reason for her sudden exit.
According to the message, the maid had secured a new job and decided to leave immediately without informing her employer beforehand.
Narrating her frustration and disappointment, Nach Nach recounted how she first realized something was wrong when the maid failed to show up for work on Monday. She initially assumed it was a temporary absence but grew increasingly concerned as the days passed without any communication.
She described the sequence of events in her post:
“After absconding from work on Monday, she beeped me on Tuesday morning, but I never called back. There was no further communication. On Wednesday, still no show. It was a public holiday, so I didn’t bother much.
Yesterday, Thursday, 7:30 in the morning, she was still absent. 8:20, nothing. By 8:30, I tried calling her, but the call kept dropping. I assumed it was a network issue. An hour later, I called again, and this time, the phone rang, but she didn’t answer. I tried once more after a few minutes, and again, no response. It became clear that I was being ignored.
At 17:03, I finally received a text message from her, explaining that she had found a new job and had to leave immediately. I did not respond. It’s true, Lusaka is for business. “Bampesha ine aba ama HH (House helps). Nga wabapukuta, wabasambika, bacha.. they leave. This one I even taught how to bake!! Lesa abapale bana nani.”
Her post has since sparked discussions online, with many sympathizing with her frustration, while others defended the maid’s actions, arguing that workers have the right to move on if they find better opportunities.
What do you think? Was the maid wrong for leaving without notice, or was she simply looking out for her own interests?
