A Nigerian TikToker has raised alarm after allegedly being arrested by the police for creating content that criticizes President Tinubu’s government as part of the ongoing 30-day rant challenge.
The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media, reportedly occurred when the content creator and a group of individuals were heading to a market square to shoot their latest video for the challenge. In a viral post circulating on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), he recounted how they were suddenly apprehended by law enforcement officers and taken into custody.
The content creator, who appeared visibly shaken in the video, revealed that they were detained at the police station for several hours without any formal charges being stated. He expressed his frustration, stating:
“We were picked up at the market square while shooting content for the 30-day rant challenge. We spent over three hours at the station, and we still don’t know why we were targeted for simply expressing our opinions.”
He further alleged that during their time in custody, they faced intense questioning about their intentions behind the challenge and were warned against continuing their activities. The TikToker also accused the authorities of attempting to suppress free speech in Nigeria.
As news of the arrest spread, many Nigerians took to social media to express their concerns and demand answers. The hashtag #30DaysRantChallenge has gained momentum, with users calling for the release of the content creator and denouncing the alleged police action.
