A Nigerian lawyer, Gift Onyinye Ola, has advised her fellow women to opt for cesarean surgery instead of enduring the pain associated with normal childbirth, encouraging them to consider the option to reduce the trauma.
In a series of posts on her Facebook page, Gift strongly criticized ‘African women’ who, according to her, often go through childbirth pain as a way to prove their strength. She argued that enduring intense pain should not be seen as a sign of strength, challenging the notion that women must suffer through childbirth to earn that title.
She further emphasized that, despite what some may believe, there is no biblical promise that childbirth will be painless, referencing the idea of the "Hebrew woman" and reminding women that God did not specifically say they would give birth without pain. Gift also took to her platform to advise women to prioritize their health and comfort during childbirth.
“God never promised we would give birth like the Hebrew woman. There’s no such thing. Take care of yourself, eat the right food, go to antennal, Do CS or anything medically possible to reduce the trauma,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Monday, urging women to consider all medically available options for a less painful experience.
