A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to narrate the shocking ordeal her sister experienced after being brutally attacked while jogging early in the morning.
According to her, her sister and a friend were out for a routine jog when they were ambushed by unidentified attackers who robbed them of their valuables. In the process, one of them was viciously stabbed multiple times—approximately 12 times—in different parts of her body, leaving her in critical condition.
The distraught lady immediately took the matter to a police station, hoping for swift action and justice. However, she was left disappointed by the response she received from the officers on duty.
Instead of conducting an immediate investigation, the police officers allegedly dismissed the case and shifted the blame onto the victims. The lady claimed that most of the female officers at the station reprimanded her sister for jogging in the first place, suggesting that she and other women only jog to "enhance their physical appearance."
She shared her frustration online, recounting the officers' insensitive comments:
“My sisters were attacked while jogging. They were robbed, and one of them was stabbed 12 times in different parts of her body.”
“We went to the station to report, and most of the female officers there said, ‘Haven’t they warned you girls to stop jogging? It’s because you want to have a big bum.’ Can you imagine?”
“You people should be looking for solutions and arresting those responsible for what happened to my sister!”
The lady expressed deep disappointment over how the matter was handled, questioning the police’s role in protecting citizens from criminals rather than blaming victims for their circumstances.
Following her revelations, netizens reacted strongly, with many criticizing the police for their alleged negligence and lack of empathy. Some users pointed out that law enforcement should prioritize security rather than discourage women from engaging in basic outdoor activities like jogging.
See some reactions below:
@bayorinde21: “Police all over the world release security advisory information. And if you can’t abide by it then you are to be partly blamed.”
@Lummy80820577: “When it comes to ladies, no one ever takes them seriously when something happens to them because majority of people know how they can frame and fabricate lies even if they are right.”
@NelOsuji: “Older sad Nigerian women no dey use eyes see fine young girls. All they think about is that these are the girls their husband are chasing up and down! Very sad and pathetic lot. Sorry for what you and your sis had to go through xx.”
@Omochukwu1: “Are we now in Afghanistan where women aren’t allowed to be in public by themselves?”
The incident has sparked widespread discussions about safety in public spaces, particularly for women, and the need for Nigerian law enforcement to take victims’ complaints more seriously.
