A Nigerian influencer has taken to social media to mock Nigerian banks after receiving a notification from his UK bank that he would be credited with £50 as a reward for simply banking with them.
The influencer, who shared the news on his X page (formerly Twitter), expressed amazement at the generous policy of his UK bank, highlighting that the amount would be credited to his account automatically, without any further action required on his part.
He further explained that millions of customers banking with the same institution would also receive the same benefit, demonstrating how banks in developed countries prioritize customer appreciation and rewards.
In his post, @Wizarab wrote: “My bank in the UK is sending me £50 next month as a thank-you for banking with them. I don’t have to do anything. They will credit me next month. £50 each to over 12 million Nationwide users—that’s over £600 million. Thank you.”
He then compared the situation to Nigerian banks, accusing them of prioritizing excessive deductions instead of offering benefits to their customers. He criticized their business model, claiming that instead of rewarding loyalty, they burden customers with numerous charges.
“Nigerian banks are only good at collecting card maintenance and account maintenance fees while declaring huge profits,” he lamented.
His statement quickly gained traction online, sparking discussions among Nigerians who resonated with his sentiments. Many social media users took to the comment section to air their frustrations about the numerous fees deducted by Nigerian banks.
