Three mortuary attendants in the Obingwa council area of Abia state narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob after a disturbing discovery was made concerning a deceased man’s missing testicles. The incident unfolded when one of the deceased man’s sisters insisted that the body be undressed for inspection before being sent to the cemetery for burial. It was during this process that the shocking realization occurred: the testicles of the deceased man were missing. This discovery led to an immediate outcry from the family, which quickly turned into fury from the local youths, who followed the family to the morgue to confront the mortuary attendants over the missing body part.
According to eyewitness reports, the mortuary attendants tried to escape the scene as the enraged youths closed in on them. However, the youths managed to apprehend them before they could flee, sparking further tension in the area. Local residents expressed their outrage, with one eyewitness stating, “We don’t know that this mortuary is involved in such evil business; people have been suspecting him. It is an abomination in Igbo land to sever the body part of a dead person. Now, we have seen what he has done and why his business is flourishing. He was operating his mortuary business in that abandoned filling station. He and his attendants will answer for their crimes.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many now questioning the legitimacy of the mortuary business. The mortuary attendants, who were saved from immediate harm by law enforcement, are now facing intense scrutiny over their actions, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement in the crime. The locals remain furious, calling for justice and accountability in the wake of this disturbing event.
