The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has officially confirmed that the long-anticipated increment in Corps Members’ monthly allowance will take effect starting from March 2025. According to his statement, Corps Members will now receive a stipend of ₦77,000 per month, a significant increase aimed at improving their welfare and financial stability during their service year.
The announcement was made during an interactive session on Thursday at the NYSC Zonal Offices in Wuse and Garki, Abuja, where Brigadier General Nafiu addressed pressing concerns from Corps Members regarding the delay in implementing the new allowance structure. Many had expressed uncertainty about whether the increase would be honored, prompting the Director General to provide reassurance.

“With effect from March, you will receive Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is efficient in record-keeping, and I assure you that your payments will be made promptly. The nation and the Scheme appreciate your dedication and service,” Brigadier General Nafiu stated.
He went on to urge Corps Members to remain patient and diligent in their service, highlighting the importance of the NYSC’s objectives in fostering national unity and instilling values such as patriotism, discipline, and teamwork. He emphasized that the increase in allowance is a recognition of the sacrifices made by Corps Members and a testament to the government's commitment to youth empowerment and welfare.
In addition to discussing the allowance, Brigadier General Nafiu expressed deep appreciation for the resilience and commitment shown by Corps Members in various states across Nigeria. He acknowledged the challenges they face and encouraged them to continue contributing positively to their host communities.
Furthermore, he paid tribute to the founding fathers of the NYSC, commending their vision and the ongoing efforts to improve the scheme for future generations. He also called on all relevant stakeholders, including state governments and private sector partners, to support the NYSC in enhancing the overall experience and welfare of Corps Members nationwide.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, Zaka Deborah Alheri, a Corps Member from the Garki Zone, expressed gratitude to the Director General for his dedication and efforts in ensuring that the allowance increment is fully implemented. She noted that this development would provide much-needed financial relief and motivation for Corps Members as they continue their service.
The interactive session concluded on a positive note, with Corps Members expressing renewed optimism and appreciation for the NYSC leadership. Many took to social media to share their excitement about the increase, while others called for additional support, such as improved accommodation and transportation provisions, to further enhance their service year experience.
