A tragic lightning strike occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Matuak Giwa, Bondon District, Moro’a Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna, resulting in the death of a herdsman and 12 cows. The fatal incident took place around 4:30 pm as the herder, Ibrahim Likit, a young man from Bauchi State, sought shelter from the rain with his cattle.
The lightning strike hit suddenly, and the herder, along with his 12 cows, was killed instantly. The tragic event has left the local community in shock and mourning. Ibrahim Likit, who had been a dedicated herder, was struck while trying to protect his livestock from the storm.

Simon Ayuba, the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, described the incident as deeply tragic, stating that both the herder and the livestock died at the scene. He emphasized the shock and sadness felt throughout the community following the sudden loss.
“The herder, along with 12 cows, died on the spot. It was a tragic occurrence that has left the community in shock,” Ayuba said, expressing his sorrow over the incident. His words echoed the disbelief shared by many in the village.
Mallam Tanko Isiyaka, the Ardo (leader) of Bondon District, also confirmed the tragic incident, expressing his condolences to the grieving family. He called on community members to offer prayers and support to the deceased’s loved ones during this difficult time.
The herder’s body was laid to rest according to Islamic rites, with family and community members gathering to pay their final respects. The entire community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this unexpected tragedy.
