The Kano State High Court, Kano, has delivered a landmark judgment, sentencing a housewife to death for the gruesome murder of her childhood friend’s 8-year-old daughter, Aisha Sani. The court found the accused guilty of kidnapping and deliberately causing the death of the innocent child.
According to reports from LIB, the accused, identified as Fadila, lured and kidnapped her childhood friend’s daughter, Aisha Sani, under false pretenses before committing the heinous crime. The prosecution presented evidence showing that after abducting the child, Fadila pushed her into a deep well, leading to her tragic death.
The case shocked residents of Kano, as the young girl had been declared missing for two weeks before her lifeless body was eventually discovered inside the well at Gandu Albasa Quarters. The heartbreaking discovery led to a full-scale investigation, which resulted in the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
During the court proceedings, witnesses testified about the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and the role of the accused in her murder. The prosecution provided compelling evidence, proving beyond reasonable doubt that Fadila was responsible for the crime.
Delivering his judgment, the trial judge, Justice Yusuf Muhammad-Ubale, ruled that the accused was guilty of the charges brought against her and must face the full consequences of her actions. As a result, he sentenced her to death by hanging.
“I hereby sentence the defendant to death by hanging for kidnapping and throwing the victim into a well, which ultimately caused her death,” the judge declared while pronouncing the final verdict in the case.
Before reaching his verdict, Judge Yusuf Muhammad-Ubale recounted the sequence of events leading up to the crime, stating that the accused had kidnapped the child on July 14, 2019, at Tudun Wada Quarters, Kano, around 4:45 p.m.
Further investigations revealed that the accused had initially taken the little girl to her own sister’s house. During questioning, it was discovered that Fadila deceived her sister by claiming that Aisha was the daughter of a close friend who had traveled to Ghana. She told her sister that the child’s mother would return soon and asked her to look after the girl temporarily.
However, in a cruel twist, the accused later took the girl from her sister’s care and, on July 17, 2019, at about 6:30 p.m., deliberately threw her into a deep well located in Tukuntawa Quarters, Kano, where she ultimately met her tragic end.
The judge emphasized that the overwhelming evidence presented against the accused left no doubt regarding her culpability. The court, therefore, ruled that the appropriate punishment for such a brutal and senseless act was the death penalty.
