Former President Muhammadu Buhari has publicly praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of his 73rd birthday, expressing admiration for their enduring political alliance and Tinubu’s contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.
During a phone conversation on Friday, Buhari extended his heartfelt congratulations to Tinubu, offering prayers for his continued good health, long life, and a prosperous tenure in office. He also reflected on their shared journey within the political landscape, particularly in the formation and rise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an official statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari acknowledged Tinubu’s pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s political structure, describing him as a steadfast ally and a critical force behind the success of the APC. He credited Tinubu, alongside other key party leaders, for their efforts in securing APC’s victory and ultimately helping him ascend to the presidency after multiple unsuccessful attempts.
Buhari further commended Tinubu for his strong leadership and political acumen, emphasizing his extensive influence in Nigerian politics. He lauded Tinubu as a dedicated activist, a strategic party organizer, and a serial winner of democratic elections.
“The annals of this country will not be complete without recognizing the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu—as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organizer, party builder, a reliable ally, and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with Asiwaju,” Buhari stated in his message.
He also reflected on the APC’s 2015 electoral victory, stressing that it was a mandate to build a better future for all Nigerians, particularly the underprivileged. He expressed confidence that the vision they pursued together had not been lost under Tinubu’s leadership.
“When Nigerians handed the baton of leadership to the APC in 2015, it was a mandate to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria, where the poor have opportunities for a better future. I am glad that the vision is not lost. It was a victory for all who wish the country well,” Buhari added.
