Controversial Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has opened up about his decision to transition from being a Christian pastor to embracing traditional worship, explaining how divine revelation led him on this path.
It would be recalled that in 2023, Yul Edochie announced the launch of his own ministry, claiming he was divinely inspired to spread the word of God. His online preaching sessions, which he ran alongside his partner, Judy Austin, gained widespread attention. However, in early 2024, he made a surprising shift, renouncing his Christian ministry to fully embrace traditional worship.

Speaking about his decision to switch to traditional worship, Yul Edochie disclosed that he felt incomplete while preaching Christianity. According to him, a divine voice urged him to reconnect with his roots and learn the ways of his ancestors.
In his words …
“In 2023, I started my ministry. While preaching the word of God, I felt a vacuum. I felt there was more to it. I felt incomplete. Then God said to me, ‘Go home and know about your people. You cannot be preaching about the people of Israel, yet you know nothing about the people of Nteje. Go home and learn the traditional worship and ways of your people, for they’re approved by God. And when I came back home, I became complete.”
Reactions trailing his revelation …
Following his statement, social media users shared mixed reactions, with some doubting his claim while others criticized his transition.
agbot asked: “How does God’s voice sound when He told you this? Abeg explain.”
judy_obasiyul_autism1 commented: “Today is definitely not the day to accuse God falsely. Yul, please, you know very well that it was not God who told you this—it was Judy. Put your hand on your chest and say, ‘It is Judy who told me.’”
