Nigerian televangelist and founder of Streams of Joy International, Pastor Jerry Eze, has shared deep insights into why he often breaks down in tears during intense prayer sessions. The renowned preacher, known for his passionate style of worship and the widely followed New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), explained that his tears stem from a place of deep compassion and empathy for those going through difficult situations.
Pastor Jerry Eze revealed that from a young age, he recognized himself as a deeply compassionate individual. However, after stepping fully into ministry, he came to the profound realization that compassion is an essential element in witnessing and facilitating miracles. This, he says, has shaped his approach to prayer and intercession.
During an interview marking the fifth anniversary of NSPPD, Pastor Jerry Eze disclosed that he receives countless messages daily from people sharing their pain, struggles, and overwhelming life challenges. These stories of hardship weigh heavily on his heart, making it impossible for him to remain emotionally detached while interceding for them in prayer.
Quoting from the Bible, he referenced the scripture that says, “We do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities.” He further explained that Jesus was made like one of us so that He could become a faithful and merciful high priest, emphasizing that compassion is a divine trait that drives effective intercession.
“I’ve always known myself to be a very compassionate person, but when I came into ministry, I realized that compassion is an inevitable tool for the miraculous. Every day, I am confronted with heartbreaking messages from people facing unimaginable situations,” he stated.
Illustrating his point with a real-life example, Pastor Jerry Eze recounted a deeply tragic story that left him emotionally shaken. “Let me give you an example. How do you even begin to pray for someone who has gone through so much pain? Imagine a woman who lost her husband and, after trying to rebuild her life, remarried, only to lose her second husband as well. And after summoning the courage to try again, she marries a third time, only to lose her third husband too. How do you even comprehend such pain?” he said, highlighting the intense burdens that people bring to him in search of divine intervention.
Pastor Jerry Eze concluded by emphasizing that his tears during prayer are not a sign of weakness but rather an expression of deep empathy for those suffering. He believes that true intercession requires carrying the burdens of others with genuine love and compassion, which, in turn, attracts divine intervention.
