The mother of former Nigerian national and West African light-heavyweight boxing champion, Olanrewaju Success, has broken her silence regarding the tragic passing of her son, expressing deep sorrow and calling for justice.
Earlier, Gistreel reported that Olanrewaju Success passed away on March 30, 2025, during a boxing match in Ghana, sparking widespread condolences from fans, fellow athletes, and close associates who mourned the loss of the talented boxer.
In a recent development, Olanrewaju Success’ mother opened up about her struggles as a widow and the painful loss of her son, revealing that she has been raising him alone since the tragic passing of her husband on June 12, 1993.
According to her, Olanrewaju was only five years old when his father died, and she single-handedly raised him through the years, supporting his dreams of becoming a professional boxer.
She disclosed that shortly before her son's passing, he had confided in her about receiving a threatening message instructing him to withdraw from his upcoming boxing match. However, he refused to back down, determined to prove himself in the ring.
Her revelation has sparked speculation among fans and loved ones, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise.
According to her, the late boxer left behind a grieving wife and two young children who now face an uncertain future without him. She has called for a thorough investigation into the events leading up to his death, seeking justice for her son.
“He was only 5 years old when his father died in 1993. Since then, I’ve been raising him all by myself. A few hours before his demise, he sent me a message saying that he was being threatened to step down for the opponent he had a boxing match with, but he refused,” she emotionally stated.
