Controversial content creator Just Adetoun has ignited mixed reactions online after publicly criticizing a struggling woman for taking her 11-year-old daughter to her street-sweeping job as early as 4 a.m.
In a viral video shared on her social media, Just Adetoun confronted the woman while she was working on the streets with her child. She accused the woman of exposing the young girl to child labour and cautioned her against involving the child in such work again. Adetoun expressed concern for the girl’s welfare, warning that the situation was unacceptable regardless of the woman's financial struggles.

Sharing the video on her Instagram page, Adetoun called on society to recognize and condemn child labour, urging the public not to normalize such situations despite the prevailing economic hardships. She wrote, “Pls let’s protect all our children from child labour 🙏🙏🙏. I will listen to her situation and we will see a way to help her, but for now, let the society understand what child labour is and let’s not encourage it, please 🙏.”
Adetoun added, “Obviously, for someone to wake up, leave Iyana Oworo, and be sweeping before 5 a.m., there is PROBLEM😭😭😭😭. Times are hard, but our children must not be exploited 💔💔💔💔🙏.”
Her stance has sparked divided opinions online. While some praised her for speaking out against child labour, others empathized with the woman, suggesting she might have had no other choice due to financial struggles.
A social media user @flourish007 wrote, “This is commendable. Child labour and exploitation are illegal, yet in Nigeria, many people overlook the issue because the government fails to uphold children’s rights. Regardless of the country’s harsh economic conditions, there is no justification for the mother’s actions.”
The user continued, “I hope that, one day, those criticizing the woman for recording the incident will understand her intentions. Hopefully, our government will take responsibility for protecting children’s rights and ensuring the country works for everyone, not just a privileged few.”
Another user, @StackedSam added, “You put a camera in someone’s face and started talking to her like you’re talking to a child because you feel like there’s nothing she can do and then you post the video on social media?? How is this even child labour? Is the child employed??”
