Controversial Nollywood actor Ganiyu Kehinde Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, has publicly retracted his earlier statement in which he claimed that actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele paid him a mere ₦90,000 for a month’s work on her movie set.
The actor's original remarks had sparked a public outcry, with many expressing displeasure over his accusation of being underpaid after working with the Box Office-rated actress. However, Ijoba Lande later came forward to clarify the situation in a follow-up video released on Friday, where he made a correction to his previous statement. He explained that he had actually received ₦190,000 for his work, and the discrepancy was a result of poor video editing that led to confusion. He emphasized that the video where he misspoke had been edited in such a way that only the part where he made the mistake was shared, while his subsequent correction was omitted.
In the video, which was shared in Yoruba, Ijoba Lande pleaded with Funke Akindele to forgive him for the misunderstanding, stating that it was never his intention to defame her. He also expressed regret over the situation, saying he did not want to face legal consequences due to his words. His heartfelt apology included the message: “Funke Akindele gave me ₦190,000, not ₦90,000. Please help me beg Aunty Funke. The video was cut and joined, which led to the mistake. People only shared the part where I misspoke and not where I corrected myself. Please, forgive me. I don’t want to go to jail.”
Ijoba Lande's post continued with a sincere plea: “Make God no let my mouth 👄 put me for big trouble oooh. I know mean it this way oooh pls help me beg @funkejenifaakindele pls I’m very sorry mama I didn’t mean it this way pls forgive me mama.” The video has since garnered attention, with viewers responding to the actor’s apology and offering their thoughts on the controversy.
