Super Eagles head coach, Éric Chelle, has taken a firm decision to keep the team’s training session in Uyo strictly private, completely barring both journalists and fans from attending the session on Sunday night.

This move comes as the Super Eagles intensify preparations for their crucial upcoming match against Zimbabwe in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The three-time African champions touched down in Uyo on Saturday afternoon, just hours after securing an impressive 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali during their Friday night fixture.

Addressing the media, the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, explained that the decision to restrict access to Sunday’s training session is part of a broader strategy to ensure maximum focus and concentration for the players. According to him, the technical crew, led by Chelle, is keen on avoiding any distractions as they fine-tune their strategies ahead of the clash with Zimbabwe.

The match, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, will be held at the iconic Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where the Super Eagles will be hoping to maintain their momentum in the qualifiers.

While Sunday’s session remains completely closed, Efoghe confirmed that Monday’s training session will be partially open to the media, in accordance with FIFA regulations. Journalists will be granted a 15-minute window to capture footage and observe the team’s preparations before the session resumes behind closed doors.
