A Caucasian lady has sparked controversy online after calling out renowned Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, for allegedly welcoming twin boys through surrogacy.
The lady, identified as @Poppy_yyyyyyyy on X (formerly Twitter), took to the platform to share her thoughts on the matter, which quickly gained widespread attention.
It is worth recalling that in a recent interview about her book, ‘Dream Count,’ Chimamanda had joyfully announced that she had recently welcomed a set of twins.
However, at the time of the revelation, the award-winning author did not disclose whether she had the children through a natural birth or opted for surrogacy.
Expressing her disappointment, @Poppy_yyyyyyyy alleged that the writer chose to have twin boys via surrogacy, which she found to be a letdown.
“Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie using a surrogate to get twin boys is ridiculously disappointing,” she tweeted.
The claim sparked heated debates, with various netizens weighing in on the matter. One user, @Faythememer, speculated, “It’s possible she had fertility issues.”
However, @Poppy_yyyyyyyy responded harshly, stating, “That’s not an excuse to buy a baby.”

@Jenny27051995 remarked: “I just love her book. We all have our flaws.”
@Poppy_yyyyyyyy replied: “I love her books too and thought she was incredibly brave for speaking up about women’s rights. I find it incredibly disappointing that she doesn’t think those rights extend to all women.”
@UChigbu53414 fired back: “Who cares what you think about her? Since when did surrogacy become a crime? Many people, even your faves, have done it, but because it’s Chimamanda, you want to complain.”
@JoolzDenby added: “Why is it surprising that a rich, entitled woman with little contact with people unlike herself would buy a baby from a poor woman rather than take the risk and ‘hassle’ of childbirth? It’s common practice now.”
@Poppy_yyyyyyyy responded: “Everything I’ve read by her suggests that she’s highly aware of class, race, and gender issues. I thought she was better than that. More fool me.”
