Nigerian street-hop singer, Portable, has openly criticized veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa over the removal of his song from major streaming platforms due to alleged copyright infringement.
The controversy erupted after Portable used a line from one of Osupa’s songs in his track, prompting Osupa and his distribution team to file a copyright complaint. As a result, the song was taken down from Spotify and Apple Music.
In a viral video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Portable expressed his frustration and disappointment, launching verbal attacks on Osupa for what he perceived as a lack of support for his music career. He accused the Fuji legend of being unnecessarily harsh and labeled him as “big for nothing.”
Portable went on to compare Osupa’s reaction to that of another Fuji legend, Pasuma, stating that Pasuma had been more accommodating and supportive. He emphasized that he had also used some lines from Pasuma’s music, but unlike Osupa, Pasuma did not take any action against him.
In his words, Portable stated: “Saheed Osupa, you are big for nothing. If you can’t embrace me, I will drag you. You sing Fuji, while I sing hip hop. The same way I used a line from your music is the same way I removed three verses from Pasuma. But Pasuma never reported my song. Keep your distance if you can’t embrace me like the way Pasuma adopted me like his own child. Osupa is a good man.”
His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some fans supporting Portable’s stance, while others criticized him for disrespecting a veteran in the Nigerian music industry.
